Often people come along to their first Cafe Games and are surprised how many new games there are, board games they’ve never heard of before, so many new ideas. But looking through the photos from July, I realised that we do play quite a number of games that have actually been around for a while – they must be popular!
Only a few photos this time. Bit of an irony, that an event as busy as June, with so many friends and games, would have less photos, but you’ve got to allow me *some* time to play myself!! 😛
If you’re on Facebook, remember to click through the photos to tag your friends in the photos in case they didn’t see them!
I’ve always maintained that part of the value of playing games is that we get to see more of peoples’ personalities that might not come out in everyday conversation. You learn more about who is optimistic, who is pessimistic, who is impulsive, who worries too much … you might also learn things about yourself that you didn’t realise, that maybe you’ll consider changing. Ouch, 2016 continues to speed by! Codenames is still very popular, and games derived from Monopoly are still with us. Cards Against Humanity still has a few die-hard supporters, but is far from the days when it was the craze. Hedbanz is showing unexpected popularity, and the deduction game Deception seems to have crept into the gap left by the disappearance of Mysterium.
Anyway, here’s what we got up to in our March event …
Last month’s event was absolutely chock-full of games and happy players – no matter the size of the venue, so many people love board games that they’re bound to fill it up!
Our Summer games picnic was a lovely day of dappled sunlight and the warmth tempered by gentle breezes, in the Royal Botanic Gardens…

And yes, this month, another video of the fun & games we had at the October Cafe Games event.
When people ask what a particular game is like, it’s always very tempting to compare it to another game they might know.
“It’s like this … with a bit of that thrown in …”
Check out the fun board games (and card games) we played in our August event … many of them were similar to other games … or maybe just in my head …
Apparently this weekend we clashed with the Supernova anime/sci-fi convention. You’d think they’d be more careful picking dates, but we’re sorry if they took a hit because of us. Turns out there’s a lot of geeky overlap between our members and Supernova fans! We had lots of fun anyway…. despite there being no cosplay. It’s not banned you know 😛

Okay, I’m very slack with getting posts out here, but here’s a quick one – a run down of the annual December games picnic-in-a-park that we had last month!
I have to say, it was an absolutely perfect day, and probably the best of these that I’ve ever run – sunny, but not too hot, or too blowy. We had a good turnout of fun people – though not as many people as said they were coming!! – Well, quality over quantity, right? 😀
Food and games and people everywhere! Continue reading →
