Cafe Games at the Celtic Club

At least once a month, on a Saturday, the Cafe Games club meets up for an afternoon of boardgames and socialising, with food and wine within easy reach.

Our new city venue is the Celtic Club (Irish Club), corner of Latrobe and Queen streets in the Melbourne CBD (see map below)

  • Entrance around to the right … since it’s a “club” venue, you need to sign in on arrival, and then follow the signs near the elevator.
  • We can play games in large groups, or small groups, it’s all fine.
  • From 12 midday to 11pm … drop in whenever you like 🙂

If you’d like to get notified each time Cafe Games is run, send a blank email to CafeGamesDay-subscribe@yahoogroups.com . If you’re a FaceTime member, you can join the “Fun & Games” group there.

The Venue: The Celtic Club

At the Club, we have our own bar at which you can order food or drink.

NOTE: Food is available at lunch 12-3pm and dinner 5-9pm

Please bring Games

This new venue has no games of its own so PLEASE I heartily encourage you to bring your own boardgames – everyone should own games – at least a cheap pack of cards! (Buy some?) Best social games are ones for 4-6 players and don’t take much longer than an hour … but feel free to break those rules! Anything goes, from Pictionary, Snap, Jenga and Uno, to 500, Cluedo and Ticket-to-Ride! (our big list of boardgames) We normally play in small groups, feel free to watch or ask to join in!

New visitors are usually shocked to find that the afternoon whizzes by … we used to finish at 6pm, but people complained that was way too short, so now we go from midday to 11pm.

Paying

Pub-style, pay for your food and drink at the counter.

Gold coin donation appreciated to help cover rental.

Getting There

I can highly recommend catching public transport to the event! Both Queen and Latrobe street have trams, and Latrobe street also has Melbourne Central and Flagstaff train stations mere minutes walk away!

Feedback

If you’re from FaceTime.com.au or Meetup.com, remember to leave Feedback after the event to let others know if you had fun! (Use those sites to leave ratings/feedback)

Hi Megan, at the moment we’re just once a month, usually on the second Saturday of each month. There’s a calendar at the top of this page you can add to most electronic calendars, but you can also find us on Facebook, where an event pops up to remind you or also on Meetup – but that’s very noisy these days.
